Microneedling is either a dermaroller or electronic microneedling device that uses small needles to prick the skin. The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin. Microneedling is mostly used on the face and may treat various scars, wrinkles, and large pores.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks.
It’s also used in certain anti-aging procedures, such as eyelid surgery and sun spots. The actual injections take only 5 to 10 minutes. However, every patient is consulted and counselled prior to the treatment and a before photo is taken. The entire process requires approximately 30 minutes.
Due to the extremely fine gauge of the needles, most people find it painless, however in certain sensitive areas anaesthetic cream might be applied prior to the treatment, numbing the area, and making the injections more comfortable. This will be discussed with you during your consultation.
Slight swelling at the site of injection settles within 10-15 minutes. No changes are expected immediately; the results of the treatment are gradual and become apparent only after 24-72 hours after the injections.
Make-up can be applied half an hour after the injections.
Minimal swelling, occasionally some bruising, and slight muscle tightening. In very rare cases, flu-like symptoms can occur lasting a day or two. Transient eyelid drooping is sometimes seen, and settles within 2-3 weeks. Skin infections are very rare. Cases of allergy are quite rare.
On average skin remains smooth for 3-6 months, and can last up to 9 months.
About 3% of patients develop resistance to the drug and consequently the duration of the effect is highly reduced.
You should not have this treatment if you have a disease associated with muscle weakness such as Myasthenia Gravis, Muscular Dystophy, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies to components of the drug, antibiotic use a week prior to the treatment or are taking muscle relaxants.
